Tarawa Scenario _____Game Three Tarawa must be taken by the 2nd Marine Division. The southern most atoll was small with only one distinction, a pier as long as the island was wide! Not only do the Marines have to avoid the Japanese defenses as they approach this tiny island, they have to watch out for the sharks!

American General
The American General had high ideas.
Assignment:
Marines must capture the head of the dock to insure reinforcement supplies can be delivered and aren't eaten by sharks.
Calling in the troops.^
Army of the Rising Sun
The Japanese general prepared well ahead for the battle.
Assignment
Make shark food out of the round eyes.
Japanese team members took no chance towards the end of the day. Each flag was closely guarded against that possible last minute effort from those sneaky Yankee Pig Dogs.

Recon

American troops arrived early to scope the layout and find the most scenic campsites.
The Army of the Rising Sun was certain by the their map study and their special preparation that the contest was not going to be disappointing for their team. Confidence was high. They were ready for a win.
A hint was taken from history which empowered both teams. Communication radios!
Communication during fire fights turned the Japanese team into the equivalent of a wolf pack, but don't dare suggest to anyone of them that they have any likeness to canine troops!

Long Walk Off a Long Pier

The battle for the pier was decidedly in favor of the Japanese who chuckled all the way to the score board.
Magnetic Personalities
During the fight for the pier, it was magnetic ordinances and quick action that kept the Marines scrambling. It wasn't just about having the biggest, badest equipment anymore. Smart Japanese gadgets had confused the big American toy boys.
The Marine plan to power out to victory with superior equipment and superior numbers was answered by the magnetic valentine red packages. The brutal dynamite packages were hard to shake off. The tank mission definitely put the Japanese in a positive position for the rest of game. After the messy and protracted battle for the pier, the Marines scattered to the hills. They were not sure which was worse, the sneaky Japanese or the fear of being make into shark sushi.
Holding the High Ground
The Marines commanded the hill, but the loss during the pier conflict continued to haunt them. Like eagles rousting, the picked off the little sneaks until the dinner bell.

The elevation was definitely going to present a challenge to both teams.
v... Marines held the high ground.

The American General knew his troops were talented. He also knew the Japanese were hungry for a win. The planned approach was to take the high ground.
^ Cactus rest.
The Japanese General created special ordinances which gave his team the winning edge. The magnetic bundles were ingenious.

The lady in pink had the Marines begging for pepto-bizmol!
Flag 8, located below the eagles nest was the great changing point for either team.
Dragun

^ Agony of de' feet!
After the long day of play, exhausted troops met at Resort Ranch bunkhouse for a gourmet meal of brisket, beans, slaw, potatoes, and cobbler desert. The bean dish was most amazing and the brisket melted in the mouth like chocolate!
An evening of fellowship, excellent food, tall tales and honors followed the play.
